A big thank you to Keswick Lions for their generous donation of over £3,000, which has helped us buy new waterproof clothing so more people can enjoy outdoor adventures all year round at Calvert Lakes.
When it comes to getting outdoors, the weather shouldn’t be a barrier. Having the right protective clothing means guests can get stuck in, explore, try new things and enjoy being outside, even when the Lake District weather is at its worst!
For people with disabilities, having the right clothing is particularly important. Waterproofs need to be comfortable, practical and inclusive, helping those with different sensory and physical needs take part in activities with confidence.
This donation from Keswick Lions will provide 35 new waterproof jackets and trousers that will help us make sure more people can access the outdoors, whatever the season. From ghyll scrambling to sailing, being properly equipped means less worry about the weather and more opportunity to have fun, build confidence and make memories.
We’re incredibly grateful to Keswick Lions for their ongoing support and helping us make outdoor adventures more accessible to everyone. This donation will make a real difference those taking part in our sessions.
The long-standing relationship between Keswick Lions and the Trust has helped fund a number of important projects at the centre over the years and we couldn’t be more grateful.
Cole Kelly, Community Fundraising Officer at the Lake District Calvert Trust, said:
“We’re incredibly grateful to Keswick Lions for their support over so many years. Their contribution to the Calvert Trust goes far beyond any individual project – it has helped us continue to improve the experience we can offer our guests and make sure they have the equipment and facilities they need to get involved.
“People don’t always realise the impact that a visit to the Calvert Trust can have. For many of our guests, being able to try something new, challenge themselves and discover what they CAN do can be genuinely life changing. Having the right equipment means that weather doesn’t have to be a barrier to that experience – our guests can get outside and enjoy their activities whatever the forecast.
This year is particularly special for us as we celebrate 50 years of the Calvert Trust challenging disability through outdoor adventure. We’re extremely fortunate to have such strong support from local organisations like Keswick Lions, who have been part of our story for so long.”
The Calvert Trust is keen to strengthen its links with other local community groups as it celebrates its 50th year and is inviting local organisations to visit the centre and see first-hand the difference their support can make.
Cole added:
“We’d love to welcome local groups, clubs and organisations to Calvert Lakes for a visit. It’s one thing to hear about what we do, but seeing the centre, meeting our team and finding out about the experiences our guests have makes a real difference. We also have a number of projects and opportunities coming up, so if local groups would be interested in helping us mark our 50th year by supporting a particular project, we’d love to hear from them.”
Diane Cannon, President of the Keswick Lions, said:
“Keswick Lions are proud to support the work of the Lake District Calvert Trust. They have a committed and loyal team who work hard to provide a unique facility.”
