Our newly renovated sensory room has reopened at the Lake District Calvert Trust providing a welcoming, inclusive space for children, adults and families to relax, explore and enjoy stimulating sensory activities.
The old sensory room was closed in the spring and has been reimagined thanks to generous donations from five funders. The new space utilises more modern technology and now includes a range of sensory equipment and resources designed to support different needs.
To mark the opening, Calvert Lakes is holding a free taster weekend on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th September giving local people the chance to come along, have a look around and try out the room for themselves.

“We’re really pleased to finally open the new sensory room and give local people and guests somewhere they can feel comfortable and safe.
“We know that having the right environment can make a big difference for those who find busy or unfamiliar spaces challenging. The new sensory room has been created as somewhere people can escape, explore and focus their energy at their own pace.
“Our free taster weekend is a chance for people to see what we’ve created and find out more about how the room can be used.”
The project has been made possible thanks to funding from the National Lottery Community Fund, The Percy Bilton Charity, The Baily Thomas Charitable Fund, the Joyce Wilkinson Charitable Trust and the family and friends of Roick Curtis.
We would like to thank all its supporters for making this project possible and all the staff who worked tirelessly to get the new room ready for guests and visitors.
The sensory room will be open from Thursday 3rd September with daily hourly slots available to book for public and private use. Further information, including how to book sessions, can be found on our website.
