You will learn how to groom him, how much to feed him, put his tack on and maybe give him a soothing massage after you have ridden him. It is well-established that simply being in the company of horses is a rewarding experience providing a boost to emotional well-being and mental health.
What’s included?
Well – everything you’d expect:
- Accommodation in our on-site, spick and span ensuite rooms (by the way – we don’t do online booking as we like to find out exactly what you need from your room first!)
- Breakfast, lunch and dinner plus snacks
- Two half days sessions at our stables
- One half day accessible outdoor activity – tailored to you and the time of year.
- And everything else – all those things you didn’t expect but that really matter: meeting and making friends with like-minded individuals; a break from routine; doing things you may never have thought possible ; quite simply – making memories.

Will you be a Montague? Dare you be a Capulet? Find out at the start of the week and let battle begin! The winning clan will have the honour of being named Calvert Champions. Please note, while duelling is strictly forbidden, friendly competition is actively encouraged.
Never mind the star-crossed lovers, who will triumph – the magnificent Montagues or the cunning Capulets? Find out this October…

As the night draws in and all Hallow’s Eve approaches, join local, living legend and Storytelling Laureate, Taffy Thomas for storytelling by pumpkin lantern light. Join us and embrace the ‘can do’ Calvert attitude: challenge yourself on Saturday with an outdoor activity followed by an art workshop with the fabulous Juno Lowther using Van Gogh’s ‘Starry Night’ as inspiration. As the stars appear, meet volunteer astronomers from Cockermouth Astronomical Society for an introduction to the night sky. After dinner head up Dodd Wood for marshmallows, hot chocolate and star gazing through telescopes and binoculars under the guidance of our friendly astronomers. Depart after breakfast on Sunday – heavenly!

Everyone loves the age old classic The Jungle Book and Calvert makes The Jungle Book come to life in a unique way. Culture meets Outdoor Adventure as Calvert Lakes joins forces with Keswick’s Theatre by the Lake to offer a 4-night midweek break around the theme of Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book.
Do you fancy yourself as King of the Swingers? Or are you more of an ‘I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here’ fan? Join us swinging through the trees of our Cumbrian Rain(y) Forest and take on our bushtucker challenge before settling down to a special relaxed performance of the play, The Jungle Book.
