Leading Cumbrian supermarket announces Lake District Calvert Trust as new charity partner

Booths Keswick has named the Lake District Calvert Trust as its newest official charity partner. The partnership will see colleagues at the Keswick supermarket take part in a range of fundraising initiatives in the hopes of raising a substantial sum for the Lakeland charity.

Booths colleagues collectively chose the Lake District Calvert Trust as they were drawn to the charity’s vision of ‘challenging disability though outdoor adventure’.

The fundraising begins in earnest on Friday 12 July when Booths’ customers at the Keswick store will be able to choose to donate 25p to Calvert when paying for their shopping at both self-service and manned checkouts. Loose change can find a home in good, old-fashioned collection buckets.

The Calvert team are particularly excited about this aspect of fundraising as it promises to be a wonderful way of raising awareness of the charity’s work to both locals and the many thousands of visitors who use Booths’ supermarket in Keswick each year.

There will also be a dedicated second-hand book stall at the exit with all donations going towards Calvert’s work.

Commenting on their support for the Lake District Calvert Trust, Matt Welsh, Store Manager said:
“We are so proud to support the Lake District Calvert Trust. Calvert is a fantastic local charity helping more and more people with disabilities access the benefits of outdoor activity.

We’re looking forward to working together with Fiona Bell, our Community Champion and all our colleagues over the coming months to help raise awareness – and money(!) – for this brilliant charity. We’re currently brainstorming ideas for both in-store fundraisers such as dance-athons and evening events in our café plus some further afield – perhaps a store-wide sponsored walk? Needless to say, there’s a real feel-good factor in the store as we start our fundraising planning.”

Laura Singleton, Fundraising Officer for the Lake District Calvert Trust commented:
“We are delighted and privileged to have been named as Booths Keswick’s charity partner.

Booths is a long-standing and hugely respected business with strong local history and national reach.  Support like theirs makes all the difference as we continue to challenge disability through outdoor adventure.”

“We’re looking forward to developing an exciting and challenging fundraising plan for the year, which we hope in turn will benefit their staff by bringing the team closer together, developing skills and boosting staff morale.

In return for their support, the Calvert team look forward to hopefully welcoming Booths’ staff to their Calvert Lakes’ site above Bassenthwaite for Disability Awareness Training, volunteer days and some great fun in the glorious outdoors as they try their hand at inclusive, accessible outdoor adventure.
