For Scottish schools
Give your learners an unforgettable residential experience in the heart of the Lake District. Our outdoor activity centre provides exciting residential activity breaks for Scottish schools, with programmes designed to suit children and young people of all abilities.
The Schools Residential Outdoor Education Act 2026 suggests a 4 night residential for all Scottish learners. You can break this down into a 2 night stay or a 4 night course and experience the magic of Calvert Lakes.
From outdoor adventures like ghyll scrambling and climbing, team challenges to water-based activities, we offer inclusive activities for all ages. Learners have the opportunity to try something new, build confidence and develop valuable skills while enjoying time away from the classroom.
Our experienced instructors create a supportive environment where every pupil can participate, regardless of experience, confidence or ability.
We understand that organising a Scottish school residential involves careful planning. That’s why we provide structured activity programmes, accessible accommodation and experienced staff, helping teachers enjoy a rewarding and well-supported trip. Activities can be adapted to meet a wide range of individual needs, ensuring everyone can get involved and feel a sense of achievement.
Located in the stunning Lake District, just south of the Scottish border, our centre offers the perfect setting for pupils to challenge themselves, strengthen friendships and create memories that will last long after they return home.
Whether you’re planning a first residential trip or looking for a new destination for your school, we’re here to make your Lake District adventure safe, inclusive and memorable.

As a fully accessible activity centre, we welcome people of all ages and abilities. Only one person in your group needs to have a disability for everyone to benefit from a residential visit here!
Challenging disability through outdoor adventure is at the heart of what we do. Guests are invited to try new activities, meet new people and push boundaries to experience ambition and achievement. Building confidence, resilience and independence occurs naturally here as we encourage people to challenge themselves in a safe and supportive environment.
As a Scottish school or college, you will be able to book dates at any time of year, subject to availability. You can choose how big a group to bring, from 10 up to 60 people, with accessible rooms to suit even the most complex needs.
Benefit from exclusive use of the centre for groups over 54 people too where you can choose your activities and menus, depending on the needs of your group.
We’re proud to be flexible and adaptable to ensure you get the residential that best suits your learners. Choose from 2 or 4 night midweek stays, or come across a weekend instead.
With different options to suit the requirements of your school or college group, our friendly bookings team strives to make your stay as seamless as possible.
Group stays include accommodation in accessible ensuite rooms, full board meals and exciting activities tailored to your group. You’ll have dedicated instructors during your stay and use of our hydrotherapy swimming pool and communal spaces.
Our accommodation features twin beds, triple and quads, as well as interconnecting rooms and exclusive corridor or building use for your group.
New Group leaders can join one of our Open Door dates and come stay for free! Meet our team, explore our centre, try our activities and make sure we tick all your boxes before bring your group for a residential stay.
All of our outdoor activities are accessible, and our team will work closely with you to tailor your trip to your school’s needs.
You can choose from a range of activities that include Sailing, Canoeing, Climbing, Zip Wire, Bushcraft, Cycling, Orienteering, Lakeland Push & Walks, Abseiling, Wheelchair Challenge Course, High Ropes Course, big Swing, Archery and maybe even a trip to the Stables or Ghyll Scrambling!
We understand that for people with disabilities, planning how to accessing a new place is vital for a successful visit. That’s why we’ve put together an interactive site tour of Calvert Lakes so you can plan your stay with excitement and anticipation, rather than dread and anxiety.
All of our rooms accommodate a minimum of two guests and are equipped with fully accessible ensuite bathrooms. We offer profiling or raisable beds, with and without sides, to support individual comfort and care needs, rooms with ceiling tracking hoists and interconnecting bedrooms. We also provide additional accessibility equipment on request to ensure every guest’s requirements are met.
School groups have their own exclusive corridor or building, which can be securely locked down accordingly if required, offering added privacy, supporting safeguarding measures and providing peace of mind.
All food is prepared and cooked on site by our team of chefs, and where possible using locally sourced produce from trusted suppliers. Our dining room is a warm, communal space where you’ll have your own tables for your group with breakfast and the evening meals at set times.
We can cater for most dietary requirements including pureeing, gluten free, lactose intolerance or allergies.
The day starts with a cooked breakfast including toast, cereal and hot drinks.
For lunch, there’s soup, sandwiches, crisps, fruit and tray bakes. Occasionally we provide packed lunches to help you make the most of your time outdoors.
In the evenings we provide a hearty 3 course meal with a choice of salad or soup to start, a selection of mains and tempting desserts. Hot drinks available all day and there’s a fridge to store your own snacks.
Packed lunches can be ordered in advance for your journey home.
We’re committed to making our activity breaks accessible to as many people as possible, and have specific funding for Scottish groups. It’s a finite pot and once it’s gone, it’s gone.
Because our funding is often restricted, we prioritise those who’d most benefit from financial assistance. While we cannot guarantee support for every enquiry, we encourage anyone facing financial barriers to get in touch. Our team is here to guide you through the process and help you explore the options available.
