Rare Opening of Historic Nunwick Hall Gardens in Support of the Lake District Calvert Trust

We’re delighted to announce an exclusive Garden Party at Nunwick Hall on the 14th of June, offering a unique opportunity to explore the estate’s private gardens, opening to the public for the first time in over five years.

Nestled in the heart of the Eden Valley, Nunwick Hall’s gardens on the outskirts of Great Salkeld have long been admired but rarely seen. The Victorian garden, with many original features, is renowned for its sweeping lawns, walled kitchen garden, beautifully curated herbaceous borders and large rockery. This event offers a unique opportunity for garden lovers, local residents, and supporters to come together in a truly unique place.

Alongside the owners of Nunwick Hall, Myles and Jo Thompson, we’re hosting this garden party to raise vital funds for the Lake District Calvert Trust, which provides lifechanging outdoor adventures for people with disabilities. All proceeds from the event will contribute towards making residential activity breaks more accessible for people of all ages and abilities.

A Special Day in a Special Place

The garden party is part of a busy 2026 programme celebrating our 50th anniversary. Last month, we welcomed over 200 people to a wonderfully successful Open Day, where visitors tried activities, heard stories, toured the site and met our team, volunteers and trustees.

Visitors to the Garden Party in June will be able to:

  • Explore areas of Nunwick Hall’s grounds not normally open to the public
  • Enjoy refreshments in the garden, including strawberries and bubbles
  • Learn more about the work of the Lake District Calvert Trust
  • Meet staff, volunteers, and supporters who help make our work possible

The event offers not only a rare glimpse into one of Cumbria’s most beautiful private gardens but also an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to accessible adventure in the Lake District.

Myles Thompson, owner of Nunwick Hall, said:

“We’ve been hoping to host a garden party for the Calvert Trust for some time and as this is a milestone year, their 50th anniversary, we couldn’t resist the opportunity to support this incredible cause. We can’t wait to welcome the local community and to support the life-changing work of the Lake District Calvert Trust.”
