Escape to the Lake District and immerse yourself in a full weekend of sailing with us. A true weekend of discovery, developing new sailing skills, making friends, and enjoying an adventure out on the water!

Itinerary

Arrival Day – Arrive at Calvert Lakes any time after 4:00pm. Dinner is served at 6:00pm which is a great opportunity to meet all the members of your team and the group instructor. After dinner take a dip in the hydrotherapy pool or unwind in the Games Room with your group.

Day 1 – Sailing

Today will be spent at the boathouse on the shores of Bassenthwaite Lake. Once kitted up, we’ll begin by preparing the boats before heading onto the water to learn the basics of sailing. This will include key skills such as steering, controlling speed, understanding the wind, and working together effectively as a crew.  In the afternoon, the group will venture further on Bassenthwaite Lake to put these new skills into practice. With guidance from instructors, participants will take an active role in sailing the boat while exploring the lake’s beautiful surroundings. This session focuses on building confidence, encouraging teamwork, and ensuring everyone enjoys a rewarding and inclusive sailing experience.

Day 2 – Catamaran

Today we travel down to Windermere, where we will experience another type of sailing on our catamaran. This stable, twin-hulled boat provides an exciting yet accessible way to experience the water. Supported by qualified instructors, everyone has the chance to be actively involved – whether helping to steer, adjusting the sails, or simply enjoying the sensation of gliding across the lake. This inclusive activity encourages teamwork, builds confidence, and creates a memorable outdoor experience in the stunning surroundings of Lake Windermere.

Departure Day – Depart after breakfast on Monday morning

All activities are weather dependant, and the instructor may adjust the schedule as needed based on the group’s abilities and conditions on the day.  If the weather is unsuitable for water-based activities, a suitable outdoor activity will be offered as an alternative.

Who’s it suited to?

Our discover sailing weekend is suited to people of all abilities. We have a range of portable hoists and adaptive seating to ensure everyone is comfortable in a boat. The instructors encourage everyone to participate, whether that’s giving directions, using a paddle, steering the vessel or pulling ropes to control the sails.  We will discuss your requirements at the point of booking to ensure you are booked onto the discover weekend that is best for you.
