Tony Hutton’s daughter, Lily-Mae, has a range of complex disabilities, is a full-time chair user and non-verbal. Finding places where she can experience adventure, try new things and make new friends isn’t easy. Seeing the joy on Lily-Mae’s face during their visits to Calvert Lakes means our centre is a very special place for this family. Our team see the person, not the disability, and we excel at encouraging participation for everyone. Lily-Mae loves to sail, cycle, swim, meet the ponies and swing from the ceiling in the sports hall. Her smile is infectious and we love welcoming her to the centre.
Since discovering the accessible and inclusive activities available at Calvert Lakes, Tony has encouraged more families and groups to visit and experience the life-changing adventures we offer to people of all abilities, together with their friends, families, peers and carers.
Tony is a true friend of Calvert – a staunch ambassador, regular visitor and an avid supporter of all we do.
We asked Tony to tell us about his experiences here and why this place means so much to him and his family.
