Explore the beautiful Lake District during your stay
Although there are plenty of activities to keep you busy right here at Calvert Lakes, groups who’ve visited before, or those new to the area, may want to take advantage of our lovely Lake District location to visit places away from the centre during their stay.
With so many attractions nearby, we’ll help you plan an itinerary to allow for visits to local highlights that your group will love. Explore the local landscapes with a trip to Watchtree Nature Reserve for inclusive cycling, or head to Whinlatter Forest Park for a walk or push through the woods on wide accessible trails.
For a more cultural experience, Theatre by the Lake in Keswick hosts a wonderful array of performances, is accessible for wheelchair users, offers hearing enhancements and relaxed screenings with adapted lighting and sound. Visit Keswick Market on market day or go for a wander round the shops. You can also walk down to Friars Crag on the edge of Derwentwater for an easy, relaxed walk.
Another local highlight for people of all ages is the Lake District Wildlife Park. Just a short drive from the centre, the wildlife park is home to critters large and small. With a lively timetable of demonstrations and displays, a café, large park and an accessible toilet, every visit is both fun and educational for all.
The team is happy to help plan other excursions on request. Get in touch with our friendly bookings team for more information.
“We had an amazing time at Calvert Lakes. A huge thank you to all the Calvert Staff that made the weekend so special.”
Yes! If you request a local excursion for your group in your pre-visit consultation, we’ll help you plan a visit that ensures the whole group can go together. Our team know and love the local area, and we’ll do our best to arrange a trip out that everyone can participate in.
Guests who are not visiting with a group can enjoy seasonal excursions as part of our experience or themed weekends.
The amount of time needed for your excursion will depend on where you go. Visiting the theatre will be dictated by show times, for example. A trip to the local wildlife park requires at least half a day but could be a full day out with a packed lunch, if preferred. Equally, if you fancy an evening out with a walk in Keswick and fish and chips for tea, we can arrange that for your group.
Excursions are only available for group bookings and on specific themed or experience weekends, where they are pre-arranged.
As a group, you’ll be contacted in advance of your visit to discuss your activity programme for your stay. It’s at this point we can talk about excursion requests and plan in time for your trip out.
If you’ve booked a theatre weekend with us, then there will be a trip to the theatre in Keswick included in your stay.
Families and adults who’ve booked to stay with us can take advantage of the local area before or after their stay. Your activity programme will be planned according to the needs of your group and it’s unlikely an excursion will be planned unless you are a group of 12+ and have requested one.
Why not stop in Keswick on your way to the centre? Or better yet, stay a few more nights in the Lake District and take advantage of the beautiful scenery, local attractions and fantastic eateries. Ask our team for recommendations of what to do after your stay and where to go.
We’re committed to making our activity breaks accessible to as many people as possible, which is why limited bursary funding is available to help reduce the cost. Because our funding is often restricted, we prioritise those who’d most benefit from financial assistance. While we cannot guarantee support for every enquiry, we encourage anyone facing financial barriers to get in touch. Our team is here to guide you through the process and help you explore the options available.
