A fun-filled aerial adventure for thrill seekers of all ages and abilities
Whizz through the trees on our 60m zip wire. Everyone can experience the thrill of flying through the air along our accessible zip line. Guests can take a zip wire flight as part of a rope session which is often combined with our thrilling high ropes course or our wheelchair challenge course.
Hidden away at the centre behind the bushcraft shelter, along a gradually ascending gravel path, is the zip wire entrance. On a gated wooden platform zip flights launch into the trees, and we have various ladders, hoists and stands to help adventurers access the line.
Participants wear a harness and helmet typically. We offer an assortment of harnesses including chest harnesses, kite harnesses and access harnesses depending on body type, ability and support required. Padding, neck support and leg raisers can be added to ensure everyone is comfortable, and the angle of the base plates and back support can be adjusted as required.
We appreciate that not everyone wants to hurtle down a zip wire so we can adjust the speed by lowering participants down in a more controlled way. This is more comfortable for anyone with spinal rods and those scared of heights or high speeds or who might suffer the impact of hitting the base plate.
Zip wiring is great for people of all abilities, and this activity is so flexible it can be adapted to suit a wide range of needs. The anticipation that builds before the flight, the self-release trigger and the speed of flight are all exhilarating and offer a wonderfully inclusive sensory experience that anyone can experience.
[The activities are] run by professional staff who had so much experience in dealing with people of different abilities which made us all feel very safe and able to trust the whole experience.
Most people can try zip lining! The only real limitation is age. Anyone afraid of heights might need encouragement, and we don’t allow babies or toddlers to zip wire for safety reasons.
We have adaptable harnesses that fit most body types and mobility requirements, with hoists for chair users, postural support, leg raisers, neck supports and padding all available as required.
Our zip wire is on site at Calvert Lakes. It is behind the bush shelter towards the top of the site, close to the high ropes and wheelchair challenge course. Chair users can access the bushcraft shelter via a sloping grass path from the sensory garden.
Zip wire flights are usually enjoyed as part of a rope session and combined with high ropes or the wheelchair challenge course. These activities usually form a half day session and last around 2 hours.
On the zip wire itself, it can take anything from a minute or so to clip in, be cleared for launch and clip out safely at the bottom, to 5-10 minutes if hoisting is required for mounting and dismounting. There is a spectator area where the rest of your group can cheer you on and provide encouragement for those who need it!
We’re committed to making our activity breaks accessible to as many people as possible, which is why limited bursary funding is available to help reduce the cost. Because our funding is often restricted, we prioritise those who’d most benefit from financial assistance. While we cannot guarantee support for every enquiry, we encourage anyone facing financial barriers to get in touch. Our team is here to guide you through the process and help you explore the options available.
