Calvert Lakes welcomes local MP Candidate

This weekend, Calvert Lakes welcomed local MP candidate Julia Aglionby as she set off on the first leg of her 350 mile cycle ride across Penrith and Solway.   She met with staff and participants and chatted with us over a delicious piece of cake made by Jamie on our amazing catering team.

Julia heard first-hand about the impact of breaks at Calvert Lakes.  We give our visitors a unique and fulfilling experience that changes their perceptions, exceeds their expectations, and makes a positive difference in their lives.  She also heard about our challenges and our hopes for the future.

At the Calvert Trust, we believe The Lakes should be accessible to everyone. But many charities like ours are facing challenging economic conditions, at a time when our services are needed more than ever; because the cost of living crisis is having a disproportionately negative impact on the disabled community (Joseph Rowntree Foundation, 2023).

To respond to this, Calvert Lakes has expanded its existing bursary programme to support families and individuals who are unable to afford a break.   We are also planning to expand our provision for the most profoundly disabled individuals.   If you would like to support our work, please donate to the Calvert Trust via our web site: https://calvertlakes.org.uk/donate/
