Gain independence in a safe and supportive environment
Our buddy breaks are ideal for those who are independent in the majority of their day-to-day lives. They may need some support in an unfamiliar environment with new tasks and a new routine. Our ‘buddies’ are volunteers with Calvert Lakes who have a care, teaching, clinical, or similar background. They are there to support people with reminders and prompts, and to provide help assisting them to integrate socially with other members of the group if needed.
Unaccompanied adults attending our buddy breaks must all complete an assessment form to ensure the support requirements can be met by our buddies. The form requires confirmation of the level of care needed and will be sent out during the booking process. Please note that no respite or personal care is provided, and our team are not qualified to assist with medication.

Our buddy breaks are great for adults who manage independently day-to-day but may need occasional prompts in an unfamiliar setting.
We have an excellent team of regular volunteers who have been supporting our buddy breaks for years. They are familiar with Calvert Lakes and how the courses work and make wonderful companions for those who need occasional reminders.
There is a small additional cost to buddy breaks to cover meals and accommodation for our buddy volunteers. Get in touch with our bookings team for more information.
We can’t help with personal care and medication. If you need support with these, you are welcome to bring a carer along and join an adults break. Feel free to speak to our bookings team if you’d like more information about the best activity breaks for your needs.
We’re committed to making our activity breaks accessible to as many people as possible, which is why limited bursary funding is available to help reduce the cost. Because our funding is often restricted, we prioritise those who’d most benefit from financial assistance. While we cannot guarantee support for every enquiry, we encourage anyone facing financial barriers to get in touch. Our team is here to guide you through the process and help you explore the options available.
