Take a look at our most frequently asked questions.

Yes. All our accommodation and facilities are accessible for all. During the booking process we will discuss your room requirements with you and ensure you have a room (where possible) that best suits your needs.

Yes. The majority of our rooms have profiling beds and access to mobile hoists and shower chairs; 5 of our rooms also have ceiling tracking hoists. Please call us to discuss your specific requirements as we have other specialist equipment available.

While our rooms don’t have TVs, we do have a cosy lounge where you can catch up on your favourite soaps or films.

 

Please remember to bring your own towels.

Kettles aren’t standard in every room, but we’re happy to provide one on request.

Our Wi-Fi is reliable across the site and all the communal areas.

Yes. We do have parking available on site but wherever possible we suggest that you consider a car share or coming by train or bus.

Group stays can be booked by friends, families, charities, clubs, schools, colleges and any other group of adults or children.

Our group prices apply to groups of 12 or more but can be applied to groups of 10-12, depending on the number of wheelchair users in the group.

By road

 

Our residential site is at Little Crosthwaite, Keswick, Cumbria, CA12 4QD
Some SAT NAVS navigate to ‘Calvert swimming pool’ – don’t worry, that is us!
Don’t navigate to Calvert Stables.

Little Crosthwaite is about 4 miles northwest of Keswick on the A591.

Exit the M6 at junction 40, take the A66 towards Keswick, then at the Keswick roundabout join the A591 (signposted Bothel / Carlisle) and continue for ~3 miles until you see the Centre on the right.

By train and bus

The nearest railway station is Penrith, North Lakes

Penrith is a small station (2 platforms) with a bus stop directly outside.

Stagecoach buses (X4/X5) run once or twice an hour from Penrith train station to Keswick

Some public buses (X4) drop off at Dodd Wood/ Mirehouse, which is approximately a 5 minute walk from Calvert lakes

Calvert offers minibus pick-ups from Penrith train station, Carlisle train station and Keswick bus station. Check pick-up costs and availability before you book your train tickets.

Yes. Our friendly catering team takes pride in preparing home cooked meals, which are appealing for everyone.

 

Complete your dietary requirement form 4 weeks in advance of your visit to enable us to offer you vegetarian, Asian vegetarian, vegan, kosher, Halal or restrictive diet meals.

We can provide pureed/ blended meals or bring your own blender and prepare blended food exactly to your requirements.

Residents are allocated at least one session in our hydrotherapy pool & sauna during their stay but there might be the option for more.

Yes. The pool has open public swim sessions and sole-use swim sessions available every day. Bookings must be made in advance.

We believe the Lake District should be accessible to everyone. At Calvert Lakes, we specialise in outdoor activities for people with disabilities* and welcome families, individuals, schools, clubs, and charities — with participants aged from 2 and up.

 

*Only one member of your group needs to have a disability for everyone to be eligible.

To book your holiday, you can call us directly on 017687 72255 or complete an enquiry form on our website. Either way, we’ll get back to you within 48 hours – by phone or by email.

In order to secure your booking, you need to complete and sign a booking form and pay a non-refundable deposit of £75 per person.

Once a provisional booking has been made with the Bookings team, individuals have 14 days and groups have 28 days to pay the non-refundable deposit of £75pp

 

Full balance payments are due 8 weeks prior to the start date of your course.

Yes, the cost is the same for everyone.  If you have waking / night staff who are not taking part in any activities, we only charge food and accommodation costs.

Yes. Ask about The Enabling Adventure Fund. At Calvert Lakes, we believe that everyone should have the opportunity to experience the joys of outdoor adventure. We also understand that the cost of a residential stay can be a barrier. That’s why we work to secure funding that is designed to help offset the cost of your visit. You can find more details on our website or give us a call to find out if you qualify.
