I grew up in the Lake District and have a lifelong connection to Calvert Lakes—learning to ride at the stables and swim in the Calvert pool as a child. I began volunteering at the stables in 2010, which led to a paid role as a Groom. I’ve continued to volunteer ever since, qualifying as a riding and carriage driving coach and continue to deliver sessions every weekend. I also support the stables as volunteer coordinator, helping others get involved with this special place.
Beyond Calvert Lakes, I’ve ridden since the age of four and have volunteered at several RDA groups, gaining valuable experience in inclusive equestrian activities. I’ve worked for the British Horse Society and have an insight into the commercial side of riding schools, with an understanding of both the operational and educational aspects of equestrian centres.
Professionally, I’ve built a career in access and rights of way. I previously worked as a Planning Inspector and now advise on commons and public access matters at a land agency. I dedicate my time outside of work as an advocate for access and inclusion, including speaking at Parliament and campaigning to improve countryside accessibility.
I have prior experience as a trustee in the charity sector and I am passionate about creating opportunities for people of all abilities to enjoy the outdoors. In my spare time, I love hiking the fells, horse riding, and paddleboarding.
