Spend time at our fully accessible stables near Keswick

Residential horse riding breaks

Experience our inclusive and accessible horse riding breaks. Spend time at our dedicated stables on the outskirts of Keswick, where you’ll have the opportunity to ride and learn how to care for your horse.  This is not just a horse-riding break but an opportunity to meet and get to know your horse. You’ll learn how to groom them, how much to feed them, put their tack on and maybe give them a soothing massage after you have ridden them. It is well-established that simply being in the company of horses is a rewarding experience providing a boost to emotional wellbeing and mental health.

Our equine weekends are perfect for all ages and abilities and a wonderful way to get to know our gorgeous Calvert Stables ponies.

Horse riding FAQs

Our horse riding breaks are ideal for families and adults who want to get to know our ponies.

There is a weight limit for riding the horses of 12 stone (76kg or 118lb). Anyone over this may want to enquire about other experiences at Calvert Lakes or try our carriage driving weekends instead.

Can anyone join a horse riding weekend?

Yes! People of all ages, abilities and experience can enjoy our equine weekends. You don’t have to have ridden or spent time around horses to enjoy spending time with them.

Anyone 12 stone (76kg or 118lbs) or under can ride our ponies. The weight limit ensures the happiness and health of our horses so they can continue to entertain and enjoy our visitors. If you are over this, we suggest you look at our other activity breaks or carriage driving weekends instead.

Our ponies have been hand-picked for their calm temperament and gentle natures. They are rigorously trained and assessed before meeting visitors to ensure a positive experience for all. Horses pick up on our cues and help us feel better just by being in their presence which is why our horse riding weekends are so popular!

Of course – carers/friends are welcome at a discounted rate of £220 per person which includes meals and accommodation, but no riding.
