Great for coordination, balance and building self-esteem

Rope activities at Calvert

Roped activities at Calvert Lakes are accessible and inclusive and even those with the most profound disabilities can try new activities and challenge themselves here. Soaring through the air on a zip wire, or swinging from the ceiling in our sports hall, the sensations offered by rope-based activities offer experiences everyone can enjoy.

A firm favourite with all guests, our high ropes course offers both adventurous and hesitant visitors the chance to leave their comfort zone as they tackle obstacles in amongst the treetops. Great for coordination, balance and building self-esteem, the high ropes challenge is a super exciting outdoor activity for people with a range of disabilities.

Alongside this we have a zip wire on site that is suitable for all levels of mobility. With special harnesses and hoists, even non-transferable wheelchair users can experience the exhilaration of being carried through the air.

Inside, climbing and abseiling in the sports hall encourage groups to push boundaries with grit and determination in a safe and secure environment. We celebrate every victory and our fantastic instructors can coax even the most reluctant guests to try something new.

Wheelchair users can tackle the abseil slab and lower themselves, or be lowered, over the platform precipice to experience the excitement of height from the comfort of their chair. For the more adventurous guests, our unique wheelchair challenge course offers a variety of obstacles such as ramps, rails, ascent and descent that is ambitious and achievable with the right encouragement and support.

We love using rope activities to motivate people to push themselves, inspiring confidence and promoting a ‘can do’ attitude.

Rope activities FAQ's

Take a look at our most frequently asked questions.

Who can enjoy rope activities?

Everyone! Rope activities can be enjoyed by even people with complex needs. Our hoists, harnesses and expert instructors provide thrilling rope activities that push limits, build confidence and create sensory experiences for people of all mobilities.

Rope activities are usually enjoyed as a morning or afternoon session and can last up to 2 hours, depending on the size and needs of an activity group. Generally carried out onsite, rope activities are relaxed and adaptable. They can be made more or less challenging as required.

The ropes course involves bring strapped onto a safety line then following a series of steps attached to the trees. Platforms may be wobbly, obstacles may move and the whole course is raised off the ground. With patience, support and determination, the high ropes course is achievable by most ambulant people. It will be more challenging for those who don’t like heights.

Wheelchair users will enjoy the wheelchair challenge course which sits towards the top of the site amongst the trees. The zip wire is another exhilarating activity available, as well as the indoor swing. Abseiling is great for pushing limits too and can be adapted for wheelchair users to enjoy.
